What data Mawja collects, why, and how to exercise your rights.

Who are we?

Mawja is a free service to listen to radio stations from around the world live. For any question about your data, write to us from the Contact page.

Data we process

  • Account: nickname, chosen avatar and password, which we store only in encrypted (hashed) form. No email address is asked.
  • Chat: the messages and reactions you send, shown with your nickname to the other listeners of the station.
  • Guest: a random identifier stored in your browser lets us limit guest messages. It is not linked to any identity.
  • Technical: your IP address is processed briefly for security and request rate limiting.
  • Preferences: your language and session are remembered in your browser’s local storage (no advertising cookies).
  • Favorites and ratings are stored with your account; message reports are kept for moderation; the list of recently played songs stays in your browser.

Song recognition

When you tap “Identify this track”, our servers record about 10 seconds of the radio stream (not your microphone) and send it to recognition services (Shazam via RapidAPI, AudD). We then look up the cover art and links on Spotify and Apple Music. Mawja does not keep that clip.

Third-party services

  • Audio streams are served directly by the stations: your IP address is visible to them, as on their own website.
  • Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts.
  • Station logos are loaded from the servers that host them, which can see your IP address.
  • Spotify and Apple Music links lead to third-party sites with their own policies.
  • Ask Mawja sends the text you type to an AI service (OpenAI) to understand your request; no account information is sent.

No ads; audience measurement only with your consent

Mawja shows no advertising. Only with your consent do we use Google Analytics to measure audience (page views, feature interactions, country, device type). We do not send message text, room names, invitation codes, or account identifiers to Google. It sets cookies (_ga, _ga_YKW1JR5YT2) and sends your anonymised IP address to Google. Without your consent nothing is loaded or stored. You can change your mind at any time with the button below.

Retention

Your account and messages are kept until you ask for their deletion. Technical logs are kept for a short time.

Minors

Mawja is meant for a general audience. If you are under 15, use the service with a parent’s consent.

We may update this policy; the date of the last update is shown at the top of the page.
